Cathy Johans
Having spent her youth in southern California and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Cathy has made her home in the Greenbrier Valley for the past 45 years, moving here as part of the “Back-to-the Land” movement in the 1970’s. She began exploring her artistic interests as a teenager with pencil and pen+ink drawings and continued to evolve in her self-taught artist’s journey through colored pencils, pastels, mosaics and watercolor, to her current preferred medium of acrylic on canvas and panel.
She enjoys spending time with her family and friends along the Greenbrier River. It is there that she finds inspiration from the interplay of light, water, rocks, trees and sky. The intention is to go beyond mind and method and express the sense of peace and joy that she feels from these visits in nature. Her goal is to allow her artistic gift to flow directly from her spiritual source, through her intuition and into her work.
